An evening trip down the river Stour (29th June) from Grove Ferry to the gaps on the Hersden lake proved fruitful with the sighting of at least a dozen Beavers, some with youngsters. Drifting down the river with the tide, we were able to quietly pass by several Beavers as they went about their business alongside the river bank. They would often swim across the river to the opposite bank and when diving, the slap of the large flat tail could be heard as it hit the water. Strange looking creatures, somewhat resembling a pig in water, but fascinating to watch.
