A Turtle Dove Encounter

For as long as I can remember, there is always a presence of Turtle Doves on the Grove Ferry reserve, arriving in the late Spring for breeding and can usually be found, or heard, in the area known as the Paddock alongside the entrance track just before the viewing ramp. This year has been no different and although I have until now (25th) only heard them "purring," this morning I saw a pair of birds flying around the paddock and eventually, one landing in the top of a tall bush enabling some excellent photo opportunities.

I do not know for how many years these birds will be around for as their numbers are in a serious decline with each year that passes, fewer birds being recorded back to our shores.
